Racial Description

This is the Medusa of classical mythology, and it is a terror to behold. From the waist up it is a woman with thick green scales for skin, a swarming nest of asps for hair, and a jaw that distends to show two long slender poisonous fangs spread among other more blunt teeth designed for crushing and eating those it manages to turn to stone. From the waist down it resembles a giant snake. When "standing" up, like a cobra looking to strike, the greater medusa stands almost fifteen feet tall. The beast's actual length from head to tail is usually three to four times this length.
The greater Medusa is a tropical species most at home in a sweltering jungle with heavy overgrowth and high humidity. Other species have been known to live happily in colder more mountainous environments but these are thankfully rare. It is a geovore, but it can only eat creatures it or another Medusa has turned to stone. In a strange way this is the perfect food preservation system. Hundreds of years can pass by and these statues will remain just as tasty as the day the hapless adventurer first looked into those blazing gorgon eyes.
Needless to say. Medusa's typically lair in rocky caves which are kept crowded with half-eaten statues.
