Finding the Right Campaign
Once you're ready to play, you need to find a campaign to sign on to. This means clicking the New Campaigns link in the list of the links to the left (although don't do it just yet).
The New Campaigns page lists all the campaigns people are planning on running yet have not yet had a first game of. It contains a brief synopsis of the adventure as well as a link to the game's full description/sign-up page.
To sign on to a game, click the adventure's title and go to its full description. Take note of the level this campaign is for. Unlike MMORPG's where 46th level Orc Fighter/Shamans are as common as houseflies, the ToAd is about resourcefulness and making the best character possible within a set intensity level. If the campaign is for 5th to 7th level adventurers, it does actually mean a 5th, 6th, or 7th level character. Higher or lower level characters will probably not be welcomed by the director. While you're there, read the introduction to figure out if you sincerely want to sign on to this adventure. The introduction is basically the story blurb which is tradionally read aloud to get the game moving. It's best to have it read before going to the game.
Finally, click the button at the very bottom of the page where it says “Click to Join this Adventure!” This will take you to a list of all the characters you have in this game world. If a character is not there, check your game world settings and adjust appropriately. Otherwise, click the radio button next to the character's name and lastly click Seal the Deal at the bottom of the page.Sealing the Deal signs the character up and alerts the director to the presence of a new player character. It will also take you back to the sign-up page. The director will eventually get around to checking out your character and then deciding whether to let you into the game or not. An message will be sent when the decision is made.
You can bring more than one character into a game, and it is recommended that you do so since you will need to go through this whole process again if you want to bring in a new character. You do not have to play every character you bring, some can be kept in reserve.
If you cannot find what you want on the New Campaigns page, check out the Current Campaigns page. This shows the games which are currently running and some may be looking for new members.
If you are a Director looking to start a game, click on the Start A New Campaign link. For obvious reasons, this link will only be visible to Directors.
