Very little is known about the town of Star Thick Cove except that it is a port on a distant desert isle which is incredibly hard to reach. It requires almost a week of sailing from the southern tip of Applewhite across a very thin track of shallow water. Drift too far off course to either the north or the south and the risk of being eaten by giant sea creatures escalates dramatically - definitely not for the novice navigator.
The only reason anyone bothers with the Star Thick Cove is that it is said to be yet another route to the gold encrusted lands of the Abrax, one which circumvents the greedy tax collectors who plague the route through places like Helios, Ototo and Goldanger. By being very rarely visited by the outside world, it is said that the townsfolk are quite eager to do business with anyone and can present quite a bargain to those willing to risk the journey.
The name itself comes from a peculiarity about the creatures of the coastline. Although the island only receives a scant few hours of night each day, during this brief period of darkness the starfish which live along its sandy shore light up with an eerie blue green glow. Even after being killed and dried they still maintain a diminished ability to glow in the dark and have since lately become a popular export to Applewhite, largely bought as novelties by children who like to hang them on their bedroom walls.
