What's New

Join For Free!

First though, realize what it is you are joining.

  • The ToAd is not a MUD, MOOSH, MOO, MUCK, or MMORPG. It's a table top game which uses this website for support. While you can play it online, this does not stretch beyond an experimental chat room interface which is totally unfun in comparison to everything else available on the web.
  • The ToAd is not Dungeons and Dragons meets MySpace. It does have a Friends function, but this is to be used between yourself and people you admire or those who are actually your friends.
  • The ToAd is non-competitive. If you need the thrill of high scores, high levels, and beating other people at a game - go get a job and make lots of money.
  • The ToAd is made for Ages 30 And Up - not because it contains anything so excessively vile, sexual or violent that you must have endured at least three decades on this planet to witness without being seriously scarred, but because the ToAd is retro-gaming and not something kids under thirty are likely to respect or enjoy. If you do manage to pull this off - kudos to you - you're not as juvenile as you look.

A free membership to the ToAd allows you to create a user profile as well as five fully featured characters which you may tweak or share as you desire. It is only asked that you agree to a couple of terms which apply to all users of the ToAd no matter what ones member status may be.

Member Agreement

1.) COPYRIGHT POLICY: copyright for everything created using the ToAd system remains with the person who created it - with the exception of those developers working for the ToAd. This material will be copyrighted to the ToAd's parent JDM Productions.

2.) USER ETTIQUETTE: the ToAd exists for the specific purpose of gaming and model building. The atmosphere is collaborative not competitive and certainly not combative. The ToAd reserves the right to delete any material and/or user accounts it finds offensive or disruptive.

3.) DEAD PROFILE TRIMMING: If half a year passes without any activity on your account we reserve the right to delete your profile/account in order to keep the size of the database low.

4.) CO-OP GAMING: The ToAd is a cooperative gaming environment, meaning that while there are "official rules" made by the game's designers, the system can be tailored to use contributions from outside the jurisdiction of the game's designers (aka everybody else).

4a.) You will not plagiarize other game systems or players to create stuff for the ToAd.

4b.) You will not hold the ToAd responsible for the content of items created by its players.

4c.) To use the movie ratings system, you will keep the content of what you create between G and PG-13.

4d.) You will respect the right of the ToAd to delete and/or accidentally lose online material when forced - which it may do without warning or explanation. Always print out the work you contribute!

4e.) While the ToAd will never steal your work, it may take a hint from what you have done and create an official rule that resembles something which you have created. This is for common generic items (ex: laser pistols, fireballs, space freighters, +10 swords, gnomes, etc.) and rarely applies to characters (ex: King Arthur = yes. Hobgoblin Guard = yes. Sir Lance Petronal = no. Jill O'Connor = no.), adventures (ex: Adventures where the kingdom is saved in the end = yes. The Raid on Piltdown Falls = no), or creations of pure imagination (ex: Snake Men = yes. Slithelyns = no. Burrlocks = no.)

The is done to protect the system from the domination of players who capitalize on system oversights. For example, the game currently has no Troglodytes. You create a race for troglodytes but make them fifty feet tall, twelve armed and with the ability to spit acid and fire lasers from its eyes. While there is no such thing as a troglodyte, we all pretty much know that this Japansese Movie Monster isn't it. Troglodytes are strong scuzzy fish/lizard/neanderthals. So the system needs to be able to create a troglodyte that is more in line with the shared spirit of the creature.

5.) AGREEMENT TO EXPERIMENT - the ToAd is highly experimental. It was not created by a company with deep financial pockets to invest. In fact, it was - for the most part - cobbled together with spare hours between 9 and 11 pm over the course of many years. It will occassionally change in ways which might cause you to retool your creations. Because of heavy database usage it may collapse under the stress of multiple users. While the ToAd will try to stay afloat, there is no guarantee that it will. The site could tank at any time and not resurface. You have been warned.

6.) SORRY NO REFUNDS - As stated above, the ToAd is more experiment than business. If you choose to become a paying member and then decide to go back to a free account, or if the game collapses, or if anything causes you to terminate your subscription before it has expired - sorry but we cannot refund money for unspent time.

Great! Clicking the button below (as well as creating a user profile) shows that you are in full compliance with the terms stated above. Otherwise - sorry - but we can't let you join.
