Heroic Inspirations
Art
- DeviantArt.com -- It's kinda like myspace.com but with people you might actually want to know. If you're looking to commission some character art, this is the place.
- DigitalArt.org -- Can't get enough digital black velvet pastiche? This place will keep you busy until the end of time.
- Fantastic Art Archive -- Massive database of medieval fantastic imagery
- The Woimy Archives -- David Trampier was without a doubt one of the best and most thoughtful of the early DandD artists. Where he is now no one can say. But you'll find all of the old woimy strips here
Artists
- Coop's Stuff -- A freakin' weirdo you just have to love.
- David Delamare -- He doesn't do commercial work, so you probably have never heard of him. Damn shame because I like his style.
- Day Dreamer -- The art of Julie Dillon. This is no fantasy.
- Digital Decoy -- Don't be fooled by the miniscule entryway, this site makes me sick with envy.
- J. Scott Campbell -- The creator of Dangergirl, his website's drawing jams are a riot!
- Peter Max -- Nope, no drug influence here, none what so ever. Just beautiful swirling colors and shapes which were vastly imitated by everyone. I even remember a Hershey Bar commercials from the 70's which had his art in it. Whoa....
- Rodney Matthews -- Rodney is a bit more Heavy Metal than Rodger. He looks like a bagwhan, did album covers for the likes of Nazareth, and hob-knobbed with John Cleese during the peak of the Monty Python days. One out of three isn't bad is it?
- Roger Dean -- The cover of the first Asia album made up for its only having two decent songs on the inside. In fact, I believe Sole Survivor has been used to interrogate enemy combatants. Rodger Dean is the guy who did this cover as well as all the best Yes album covers.
- Studio Foglio -- The cartoon art of Phil Foglio not only typified role playing in the early 80's (with his hip strip "What's New" in Dragon Magazine) it was one of the first to notice that there was a lot more to gaming than just the game. That this was more than just another idle pasttime.
The Sex and DandD didn't hurt either. Gaming Music
- Blue Oyster Cult -- There is something about Don't Fear the Reaper which I feel is intrisically linked to RPG's. Don't know what it is, don't want to find out, but keep the BOC on the radio.
- Hawkwind -- Because the one thing this world just doesn't have enough of is British hippies whacked out on Sci-fi, Norse Mythos, and LSD (and not necessarily in that order either).
This is the spirit of the age. - Rocket From the Crypt -- Only the best punk band there ever was. Period.
- RUSH -- Please, at least try to act surprised.
- SLADE -- In the '80s did you like to rock out to "Bang your Head", "Cum on Feel the Noize" or "Mama Weer All Crazy Now?" Then guess what? You like Slade! And you probably didn't even know it!
- The Aquabats! -- Sonic salvation for this God-awful decade. Go forth and buy everything Aquabat!
Pencil/Paper/Dice
- 1KM1KT -- This is Chris's compendium of homebrew RPG's which the ToAd has sat on wearing a pair of cool looking specs for some time now. Thanks Chris!
- Google Universal -- Basically the Google Directory entry for Universal Game Systems.
- ICAR -- I don't know anything about the game, I am simply stupified in awe of its site.
- John Kim's Big Ass List of Games -- It's not pretty, but it is about as complete as it gets. Very informative too, check out some of his essays on RPG theory while you're there.
- RPG Gateway -- A huge, nicely made archive site. Think the Mall of America, but featuring nothing but RPG stuff in every store.
- RPG Registry -- It's about as dark as a dank cellar (what the gaming world has against black text and a white background I'll never know), but it's actually a nice site for promoting games and trolling for gamers.
- Tastes Like Phoenix -- This site is a bit on the messy side, but um-uhm. It does taste like a flaming roc!
- The RPG Index -- A massive gaming site determined to list every RPG in existence since 1974. Talk about tripping through the mountains of maddness!
- Uncle Bear -- He may be a bear but its hard to see him as anything but bullish when it comes to RPG's
Plain Cool Stuff
- Baby Names -- No, not typically what you would think of as a good gaming site, but if you are having a hard time coming up with a name - check it out!
- Devil's Tramping Ground -- Flash animation was never so fun or spooky before Ed Bain got into it.
- Evil Overlord -- Definite required reading for anyone intent on ruling the world.
- Hearts of Space -- Because monday morning always comes far too quickly
- Jan Smithers Tribute Page -- Yes you know you are a freak when you not only build a beautiful site dedicated to WKRP's hometown hottie Jan Smithers, but you keep it going for nearly ten years straight. It has outlasted the series it was built around. Freak!
- Joe Cartoon Co. -- Originators of the exploding head flash animation joke - but you probably already knew that.
- Retrocrush -- Why? Because everything cool was made yesterday, that's why.
- The Killer List of Video Games -- K-Love! Unfortunately you can't play any of the games at the site, but like a quarter-less teen on a Tuesday afternoon circa 1984 you can wander around the arcade and check out the consol work.
